Itinerary

Day 1: Lima

Reception at the airport and a transfer in a private vehicle to the deluxe 5 star Miraflores Park Hotel. You will get a VIP check-in to your room, a Suite Deluxe Ocean view, with a view over the Lima Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Fresh flowers and fruits will be waiting for you.

Day 2: Lima

After breakfast you are picked up for a guided tour of the colonial and modern Lima which includes the cathedral built in 1654 where the remains of the Spanish conqueror of the Inca Empire, Francisco Pizarro, rest, the Main Square with a bronze fountain from 1650 and some unique wooden colonial balconies around the main square (Plaza de Armas), the San Francisco monastery with the famous catacombs and the modern areas of Miraflores and San Isidro. Lima is also known as “The city of the kings”, and was founded 1535 by Francisco Pizarro and 1991 it was declared a world heritage by UNESCO. After lunch, you will visit the Gold Museum, a unique private collection of amazing gold artifacts from the Inca Empire and other ancient Peruvian cultures.

Day 3: Lima - Arequipa

Transfer to the airport for a flight to Arequipa (The white city), maybe the most beautiful city in Peru, where we will meet you at the airport for a transfer to your 5-star hotel. Rest and relax in the morning to get used to the altitude. In the afternoon we pick you up for a city tour of Arequipa where you will visit the Chilina valley and the old San Lorenzo district. You will get a nice view of the city and you will visit the Main Square and the Cathedral as well as the extraordinary Santa Catalina Monastery which is built of volcanic lava and dated back to the 16th century. You will end the day with a visit to Juanita, the best-preserved mummy in the whole Americas, which was found in 1995 during an expedition high up in the mountains.
(In Arequipa you may also enjoy yourself with river rafting, mountain biking, trekking, and other adventure activities. Let us know if you want to add a day or two).

Day 4: Arequipa - Colca Canyon

After breakfast, you are picked up at the hotel for your 2 days Colca Canyon tour. You will pass the hot springs in Yura and then ascend to the Pampa de Cañahuas National Reserve where you will see groups of Llamas and Alpacas. After a few more hours the descent to the Colca Valley begins and you arrive in Chivay, the most important village in the Valley. You are transferred to your hotel, the Hotel Colca Lodge, and you can then enjoy a free afternoon in the Colca Valley which can be used to visit the hot springs.

Day 5: Colca Canyon - Puno

Early in the morning, we go further into the Valley towards the deepest part of the Canyon called Cruz del Condor. The scenery from this point is spectacular and hopefully, you will see the great condor flying by just above your heads. The condors are most likely to be seen April-October but they are also seen during other periods of the year. After a short walk along the Canyon, it is time to go back to Chivay and then you continue to Puno in private transport. Arrival to Puno and the Libertador Hotel in the afternoon.

Day 6: Lake Titicaca

After breakfast, transfer to the port for the Lake Titicaca tour with your private guide. The first stop is the islands of Uros, made entirely of reeds and inhabited by the Aymara Uros people. The people of this community live in huts built on platforms of reeds, not more than 30-40 cm thick. A native will show you how they build the platforms and then you will take a short trip in their typical reed boats. Then the trip continues to the island of Taquile. People from this Aymara community will welcome you in their colorful costumes and will show you around the island. Taquile is also famous for its fine decorative weavings. You will get a great insight into life on the island by walking around and the view over Lake Titicaca is spectacular. Lunch is served on the island before you return to Puno and your hotel.

Day 7: Andean Explorer train to Cusco

Transfer to the train station for the beautiful trans-altiplano Andean Explorer train to Cusco. Lunch onboard the train. There will be plenty of opportunities to see alpacas and vicuñas along the route in the magnificent scenery. A stop at the highest point, La Raya (altitude: 4319m) will be made. (The Andean Explorer train only leaves on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, on other days you have to go by bus or flight). Arrival to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incas. Reception at the train station and transfer to your hotel, the deluxe 5 star Monasterio Hotel. VIP check-in by the chapel to your Deluxe room. A fruit basket, fresh flowers, and chocolate will be waiting for you. The room is oxygenated to help you avoid getting problems with the high altitude.

Day 8: Cusco

Enjoy a morning to sleep a little longer or explore Cusco on your own. After lunch you will be picked up for a guided tour in Cusco and its surroundings, with visits to the four famous Inca ruins which lies in the outskirts of Cusco; the water temple of Tambo Machay, the Puca Pucara fortress, the oracle place Quengo and the impressive fortress and temple of Sacsayhuamán. Three enormous boulders, each one weighs 120 tons, are making three perfect zig-zag walls and the view of Cusco from this place is wonderful. You will finish the day with a walking tour in the center of Cusco with visits to the Cathedral, the Main Square and the Sun Temple of Korikancha.

Day 9: Sacred Valley

A full day excursion to Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will visit the village Pisac that was founded during colonial times and that is located at the foot of some impressive Inca ruins. Visit the Pisac market on Main Square where the Indians sell their products and handicrafts. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays are the busiest days, but the market is always open. After lunch at a restaurant in the valley, you will visit Ollantaytambo, the only Inca village that the Spaniards never conquered, and explore the ruins located above the village. Return to Cusco in the afternoon.

Day 10: Cusco - Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu

Transfer to Poroy. Board the luxurious Hiram Bingham train to Aguas Calientes. This is the most exclusive way to go to Machu Picchu and it includes a 4-course lunch onboard the train. Guides will also be available to answer your questions. When arriving at Aguas Calientes you will be assisted with the luggage and to board the bus for the short ride up to Machu Picchu. Your hotel, the Sanctuary Lodge, is located at the very entrance to Machu Picchu. You get a VIP check-in to your room from where you have an amazing view over the surrounding mountains. A welcome drink and a fruit basket will be waiting for you.
Now it is time for the highlight of the trip, Machu Picchu! You will get a fully private tour of the ruins where you learn everything there is to know about this magical wonder. Machu Picchu is made of stone blocks fitted with masterful precision and it harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories about the origin of Machu Picchu and your guide will tell you all about this.

Day 11: Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes - Cusco

Today you have the opportunity to return to Machu Picchu to enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the ruins. There will be plenty of time for you to discover the site. Many people choose to trek up Huayna Picchu from where you will have a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains.
Return to your hotel for lunch before going back down to Aguas Calientes by bus. Take some time to visit this colorful town before boarding the Hiram Bingham train for the return trip to Cusco. Onboard the train you will enjoy cocktails followed by a four-course dinner and a show. Reception and transfer to the luxury 5 star Monasterio Hotel.

Day 12: Cusco - Lima

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima. You choose an early or a late flight depending on if you want to spend the day in Cusco or in Lima. On arrival to Lima transfer to your hotel, the 5 star Miraflores Park Hotel.

Day 13: Lima

Enjoy a free morning with plenty of opportunities for shopping. Transfer to the airport in time for your international flight. Relax in the great ambiance of the VIP Sumaq lounge, voted the “best VIP lounge in South America 2008”.
