EQUIPMENT LISTS FOR PERU

The Andes and the Inca Trail
Below follows an equipment list for the Andes and the Inca Trail.

Keep in mind that the weather is often sunny in the day and the sun is very strong, when the sun hides behind the clouds it gets colder immediately. At night, it is cold and it may rain, more or less depending on the time of the year, so make sure you have good clothes to keep dry and wear clothing that dries quickly.

Shoes – preferably real trekking shoes. If you don’t have it, wear comfortable shoes, because you often trek 7-8 hours every day. Sport shoes with good soles so that they do not slip during rainy weather are also possible to use. Not new shoes, because of the risk of sores on your feet.
Windjacket – no heavy jacket, the best is to have several layers of clothes to put on and take off
Rain-wear, like a poncho to protect your backpack (can be bought cheap in Cusco)
Pants -Long pants that dries fast, not jeans
Short-and long-sleeved t-shirts
Underwear
Warm sweater
Shorts
Hat/cap and mittens
Long underwear for the night
Backpack
Sleeping bag (can be rented)
Walking stick (can be purchased at the start for approx. 5 soles), though not with metal tip
Mosquito repellent (preferably aerosol that can be sprayed into the hair)
Drinks if you want something special (sports drinks)
Plastic bags to pack things in to keep them dry
Snacks such as peanuts and raisins
Water bottle (to hang on your belt)
Sun-glasses
Sun protection
Lipsalve
Camera
Flashlight
Hygien napkins
Plasters against chafing
Headache pills
Chocolate/candy
The Galapagos Islands
Visa and vaccination certificates may be required
Travel insurance (copy of travel insurance)

The Lodge usually provides you with rubber boots for excursions in the rain forest, but it is difficult to get hold of bigger sizes in Peru, so if you have big feet, it’s best to bring your own.
